The latest cycle is over with another project is finished and I much more pleased with the result of this cycle than the last. The last few weeks came with plenty of challenges. My loading screen kept on duplicating itself every time you tried to exit, and some merge conflicts almost corrupted the master game scene. However, our level-headedness and constant communication allowed us to efficiently work through the problems and submit the game on time.
One task I’m in charge of that I forgot to mention is the background music for the game. I decided to use Logic Pro X as I was familiar with it and producing the song proved very enjoyable. I decided to go for an amped-up, electronic song which is a genre that I’m pretty fond of, so going into it I already had a good idea of the sound I was going for. After finishing the song, I moved onto finishing the game loop.
During this cycle, we were able to playtest much earlier thanks to the head start the pre-pitch prototype gave me. I had my parents and close friends all try a couple of rounds against each other and gave feedback. A couple of interesting strategies arose: some would land at the closet zone to them to conserve fuel, and others would waste fuel to manoeuvre to the higher scoring platforms. One common trait, however, was using their own ship to launch into an opponent’s, obliterating it and the opponent’s chance of landing.
Conclusively, this development cycle was full of learning opportunities and has produced a game I’m proud to have in my portfolio.
