Tangent Circle Visuals

This event was another outdoor music event called "Monster Mash". The idea for the stage front was a classic sci-fi monster to be looking around the dance floor, giving the impression that the crowd is being watched.

I worked together with Twisted Pixel Visuals, a local VJ to create the display. I generated the circles in Unity and using a Spout plugin, sent the camera view to Resolume, a program used for projection mapping. Twisted Pixel used the circles as a clipping mask to separate the two layers of clips, creating the final result.

In terms of interactivity, a gamepad controller was positioned near the back of the dance floor where patrons walk up and take control of the "eye". They could "look" around, shrink and expand the "iris" and reduce the amount of circles generated to create different geometries.

Learning from my last visuals, I implemented an "autopilot" which automatically moves when there is no user. After a random interval, it would snap to a location and pretend to focus in on something, hopefully catching a patron off-guard.
